Technology Transfer

Working with Inventors and R&D managers to protect, develop and commercialize new technology, products/processes, the Consultant assists in locating, proposing, and negotiating funding from governmental, industry and private sources in the early stages of demonstration and commercial application.

  • The goal is to maximize technology and product development with the minimum impact on operating costs, with a rational debt structure, while protecting equity ownership.

  • The Consultant is knowledgeable and has an outstanding track record in finding and successfully proposing to funding sources in Pennsylvania such as the Ben Franklin Technology Partners - Southeastern PA (BFTP-SEP http://www.sep.benfranklin.org), the Governor's ACTION Team, Local County Industrial Development Organizations, Local Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) organizations such as the Delaware Valley Industrial Resource Center (DVIRC http://www.dvirc.org) located in Philadelphia covering the Southeast Pennsylvania counties and the Manufacturing Technology Center (MANTEC http://www.mantec.org) located in York covering the Central and North Central Pennsylvania areas.

  • For client companies with an interest in exporting goods or services, the Consultant has in-depth experience in export/import of goods and technology, including proposing, negotiating, due diligence, and finalizing: contracts, sales/distribution agreements, joint ventures, licenses, mergers & acquisitions. The Consultant is knowledgeable and experienced in all of such actions from the experience point-of-view of a corporate participant and of a consultant.

  • Consultant's long-standing membership in the Licensing Executives Association (USA & Canada), Inc., including three years as Co-Chair of the National Subcommittee for Small Business Outreach, provides an outstanding network of highly qualified associates (LES http://www.les.org) or (http://www.usa-canada.les.org/chapters/philadelphia) to assist in multi-faceted projects, as needed.

  • As one of the first generation members of the National Contract Management Association (NCMA http://www.ncmahq.org) and with the experience of being Manager of Contracts for a major aerospace subcontractor, the Consultant is well able to assist Clients in protecting their technology rights in data during negotiations with Federal Government agencies and Prime Contractors.

  • In addition to familiarity with Pennsylvania's technology development resources, the Consultant has authored, proposed, negotiated, and administered major technology development projectss with in the Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) program through the Department of Defense (DOD), the Department of Energy (DOE), the Veterans Administration (USVA), the Department of Agriculture (USDA), the National Institute of Science & Technology (NIST), and the Department of Transportation (DOT).   • The Consultant also edited and re-drafted a Pennsylvania company’s successful proposal for the winning a major Office of Industrial Technologies (http://www.oit.doe.gov), National Industrial Competitiveness - Energy, Environment, Economics (NICE³) project, one of the first ever received by a Pennsylvania company.

Once the technology/new product is defined and adequately protected, the Consultant is experienced in marketing it to large companies, investors, and major customers based on the Inventor's strategic plans and goals.

  • The Consultant works with the Inventor and his/her Management Team to determine the ultimate strategic goal for the technology/product and assists in the drafting of a strategic marketing plan.

  • The Consultant assists in locating potential technology transfer partners, then drafts suitable business agreements; coordinates the negotiations, works with attorneys from both sides to minimize legal posturing, and assists the client company in setting up the administrative systems required to support the license/joint venture/relationship.

  • The Consultant's vast experience in administering and implementing joint ventures, licenses, and strategic partnership contracts allows the Client to establish relationships and agreements which facilitate and protect the likelihood of a long-term and successful relationship.

  • For Inventors who have had unfortunate or unsuccessful experiences with internet or other "get rich quick" schemes or unscrupulous consultants, the Consultant has experience in re-positioning the technology to extract maximum value from whatever is left from the prior mis-adventure.
